Wrestling veteran Marc Mero recently opened up about one of the worst injuries in his career.
While speaking on Wrestling Shoot Interviews, Mero revealed how he managed to tear his ACL, MCL and meniscus all at once.
“I was wrestling a Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Title against Triple H and Goldust. And I believe it was at the Montreal Forum. I had Triple H on the ground, you know how you grab the ropes and stomp them you know. Well, you don’t really land on the leg you stomp with, you land on your other leg coming down you know, to make the noise so to speak. And I remember, I just wanted to make it look so real that the stomp would be nice and loud. And when I landed, my leg bent backwards. It was the weirdest thing.
“And I knew right then that I couldn’t finish this match. I couldn’t even walk, I couldn’t even put no weight on it. It was like gone because remember I blew up my ACL, my medial collateral, my meniscus, all at once. So it was a really bad injury. And I rolled out the ring and we had to kind of change the whole finish and everything. But you were working with two pros man. Dustin and Triple H are two guys that can just do anything on the fly. Couldn’t have been in the ring with two better guys that were able to signal to the back. And a couple of referees had to come in. And I actually put my arms around both of them just to just be able to hop back on one leg.”
It took Marc Mero 8 months to recover from the injury
Marc Mero also mentioned that after he underwent surgery it took him eight months to recover and return to in-ring action.
“And it isn’t an easy surgery either. The recovery took me about eight months to come back. Before I could wrestle again,” Marc Mero said.
During the same interview, Marc Mero also mentioned that he never understood the ‘Wildman’ character and was happy that he was able to ditch it.
