Steve Maclin has recently found some unlikely allies in TNA with The Rascalz.
TNA Wrestling‘s Steve Maclin recently sat down with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard. When asked about evolving his character, Maclin said he believes he’s adapting now with his current alliance with The Rascalz and somehow gels well with the duo.
“So I think I’m doing that currently [adapting well] with me and The Rascalz right now,” Steve Maclin admitted. “Like, I’m just taking what’s kind of put in front of me, and somehow we just gel. And I know that they live up to the name of being Rascalz, and they are not the very most disciplined guys, but they get the job done at the end of the day.
“And I think we are a trio that it was to keep going, think what we are doing is very entertaining. It allows me to open up my side from being very serious and have a little bit more fun, which I’m enjoying my time with them. It’s been a good time. But it’s also, again, when my mind is set on the World Title and… The match with PCO, we had that gruelling match at Under Siege. And that’s just one of those matches where it’s just, I was just very serious at that time cuz I needed to be. I knew the opponent that was standing across the ring from me.”
The Hierarchy of Pro-wrestling
Maclin said the same was true about facing Nic Nemeth at Sacrifice, but he can be a little more relaxed around The Rascalz.
“But when it is time not to be serious, when I’m behind that curtain, I can have a good time. I have the two Rascalz with me. I want to call ourselves the Hierarchy of Pro-wrestling. But they are a good time to hang out with. And I think with the talent we have as a trio could be something down the road.”
TNA lets wrestlers evolve and allows things to happen organically
Maclin went on to discuss reacting to what’s in front of you when you’re out there in front of the fans, which allows things to happen organically.
“You have to evolve with what’s going on in front of you,” Steve Maclin said. “You just can’t stick to a script sometimes because that’s when we just become robotic. And I don’t believe in that. I like to have things happen organically. And that’s again one of those things with the three of us.
“They came out in camo pants and my new merchandise that you can get at ShopTNA, my ‘Front Toward Enemy’ shirt,” Maclin noted. “But they came out in camo pants just saluted me like a couple of jackasses that they are, and it just was a good time. It was a lot of fun.”
“And I think that [doing what’s put in front of you] goes across the board for TNA in general, and the locker room and the roster. I think that’s one of those things creatively where we have Creative give us an idea or promo, or this or that. And in a certain segment, we see how it goes and if something can gel out of it and something just happens organically, we go with it.”
The System
Maclin pointed to The System as a good example of that chemistry too. He noted how Moose, Brian Myers and Eddie Edwards are all different, but gel “because they are assholes” collectively.
“I don’t like The System. But it is one of those things we can get to at some point down the road, but you’re just watching it and it’s organically happening where things are just starting to gel.
“And I think that with the rebrand of TNA and coming into the new year, a lot of people put a lot of weight on their shoulders to really carry this brand. And I think that’s the one good thing in the roster from top to bottom everybody wants this place to be the best and for everybody to have that TNA chant going, filling up the building, selling out everywhere we go. Going back to the Palms. Hopefully somewhere… Going back to the UK, Australia, some talent’s going there. Everything is just gelling right now. We are just trying to ride that wave.”
