Roderick Strong is one of the top stars in AEW right now. One of the things that got a great reception from fans was his ‘yelling’ gimmick. It was when he would just yell out ‘Adam’ whenever he wanted to converse with Adam Cole. That slowly evolved into him yelling everyone’s first name before talking to them.
Recently, the former WWE Superstar was interviewed by Chris Van Vliet on his Insight podcast. During the interview, Roderick Strong shared how much the fans loved his ‘yelling’ gimmick.
“Some of the production people started coming who worked behind the scenes. And they’re like, yeah, the fans are screaming it before the show. It’s like, whoa. Then I was just like, Oh my God, because a lot of stuff was pre-taped and or, you know, filmed off-site. So then, like, the first time that I got to really, like after a stretch go out in front of the people. And I was like, Oh, my God, this is ridiculous. And it’s and it’s kind of funny, because whatever, like the yelling happened. But then it was like, I can’t just yell everything.”
Strong also shared that his son was the true inspiration behind the gimmick.
“It’s funny because my son does the thing when he’s fired up. And he’s so mad. He just will yell one of the words he’s saying. Sometimes it’s the right word. Sometimes it’s not. And then he just talks really calm afterwards. And I thought, like, oh, man, that’s hilarious. So that’s kind of the yelling and then like this monotone speaking was kind of just mimicking him,” Roderick Strong said.
Strong currently holds the AEW Intercontinental Championship. So, expect to see more of the former WWE Superstar on Television.
ADAM!
All Elite Wrestling‘s Roderick Strong recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard. Strong was asked about the promo where he stood up out of his wheelchair. Strong said he actually broke the microphone when he spiked it on the ground.
“Both of those things [I broke it, and I was told to be careful with the equipment]. And I said, ‘Sorry, I just blacked out.’ And I was like, ahhhh, like this is getting the energy out. I didn’t know I’d be so hyped to do that. But that was the only way I could get it out. It was either gonna be that or just continue to scream.”
Pritchard joked that Strong has been known to scream people’s names on AEW programming. Strong said that caught on so much that he didn’t even realize he was doing it at home.
“Oh yeah. All the time. [Even with] my dogs. For real, one night, my wife was like, you know what — because I’d let the dogs out, and then I’d follow them around. I was like just yelling, I was like, ‘MELLO!!! MELLO!!!’ I didn’t even realize that I’d just done that for so long. It popped me.”
