Rikishi opens up about his risky Hell an a Cell fall.
Armageddon 2000 is forever etched in history as the event where Rikishi took a back-first fall off the top of the Hell in a Cell structure and onto the flatbed of a truck. The WWE Hall of Famer recently spoke to Metro.co.uk and recalled nearly getting divorced over the spot.
“I almost got divorced from my family,” Rikishi said. “It was like, you know, they were pissed off that I did that move, the sacrifice. But, at the time, they didn’t understand that’s just what we do, as performers, as wrestlers, you know?
“You already prepped your mind, you know, ‘I can only get this opportunity one time. I can either take it or back out,’ and I chose to take it. And, you know, years later, I’m still getting residuals over 25 years from that bump.”
Rikishi added, “As wrestlers, you can prep to be able to see where you’re going to fall. But when you’re going backwards, and not really seeing which way you’re gonna go – it was definitely an intimidating moment for me.”
He went on to reveal that during rehearsals, the flatbed did not have the aluminum railings. But when it came time for the bump on pay-per-view, Rikishi told The Undertaker that he wasn’t going to back out now and said, “Tell my family I love them.”
Once he successfully landed in the truck, Rikishi had to evaluate if he was still alive.
“I didn’t know if I was still alive,” he revealed. “Trying to move my move, I was just still — all I could hear was, ‘Holy shit.’ I said, ‘Okay. My ears work.’ But I was just waiting for my body.”
