Andre Chase and Duke Hudson earned a shot at the gold, but The O.C. ruined their celebration on WWE NXT.
On the February 20 episode of WWE NXT, Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin came to the ring to celebrate winning the NXT Tag Team Championship. Andre Chase and Duke Hudson interrupted and noted that the previous champions, Tony D’Angelo and Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, agreed to give them a title shot. Axiom and Nathan Frazer joined the conversation as they too made it clear that they wanted an opportunity to challenge for the gold.
The confrontation led to a high-stakes number one contender’s match. The two teams battled it out. Axiom showcased his fast-paced offense, and the electric duo took control. Chase and Hudson rallied, but Frazer gained the upper hand again with a missile dropkick. Axiom got a two-count with a Spanish fly.
Hudson and Chase persevered, and in the end, Chase pinned Frazer after reversing a pin attempt. However, the sudden arrival of WWE SmackDown stars The O.C. (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson) ruined their celebration. Gallows and Anderson attacked all four men in the ring and stood tall.
Later in the show, Gallows and Anderson were asked about their return to NXT in an interview. The former RAW Tag Team Champions made it clear that they would stay in NXT as long as they wanted to, and they set their sights on the gold.
Breakker and Corbin won the NXT Tag Team Championship by defeating D’Angelo and Lorenzo on the February 13 episode of WWE NXT. They previously won the Men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
