Matt Striker apologizes for his comments regarding Matt Riddle at MLW Kings of Colosseum.
At MLW Kings of Colosseum, Matt Striker called the action while Matt Riddle faced Jacob Fatu. During the match, Striker referenced Riddle’s controversial past and his WWE release.
“How do you let this guy go? This guy is a star, a mega-million dollar star,” he said. “I don’t care what he does. How do you let him go? This is our cou de Grace right here.”
Striker again commented on Riddle and stated that the court of public opinion does not convict. He noted that Riddle could do whatever he wanted.
“Let’s talk about the elephant in the room,” Matt Striker said. “The court of public opinion would love to see Jacob Fatu slap the taste out of Matt Riddle’s mouth. But the court of public opinion does not convict, I’m sorry. I know it’s the world in which we live but, it’s not the case.
“He can do whatever he wants, he can kick your ass. Anyone out there (has) got a problem with him, step to him out on the street, watch what happens. End of conversation.” (H/t Andrew Thompson of POST Wrestling)
Striker then took to social media and apologized, as he said his comments were tone-deaf. He wrote that trying to use the art of character portrayal or art was self-preservation. Striker wrote that he would be better.
Matt Striker previously wrote that he played a heel character, and it was his job to raise the fan’s ire. He noted that playing a character isn’t always easy, but getting the desired and necessary reaction is.
Matt Riddle’s Controversial Past
Matt Riddle was previously accused of sexual misconduct, and Malia Hosaka corroborated the claims. Candy Cartwright (Samantha Tavel) also accused him of sexual assault, but she later dropped her lawsuit against him in 2021. It was proven via discovery that Riddle was not the driver in the van that Tavel accused him of assaulting her in.
