The Rock is still finding ways to joke about one of his box office blunders.
Baywatch is a 2017 film inspired by the smash-hit 1990s television show of the same name. The Rock (credited as Dwayne Johnson) headlined the film as Mitch Buchannon, the character originally played by David Hasselhoff on TV.
Baywatch was a commercial success, earning $177.9 million worldwide on an estimated $65-69 million budget. However, the film was a critical failure. Baywatch earned several nominations, including Worst Film, at the 38th Golden Raspberry Awards (The Razzies).
The Rock took a swipe at his Baywatch during his return on WWE RAW by comparing Jinder Mahal to the film.
Why are you so angry?
“Why are you so angry? [You’re] angry all the time. If The Rock had to guess why you’re so angry, it’s probably because nobody likes you and you’re not funny,” The Rock said. “As a matter of fact, if you were one of The Rock’s movies, you would probably be Baywatch.”
“Thankfully I’ve never seen Baywatch,” Jinder replied.
“Well, nobody else did either. Shut your mouth when The Rock is talking to you. Here’s the thing — you actually didn’t see Baywatch?
“I’ve never see…” Jinder began.
“IT DOESN’T MATTER IF YOU’VE DIDN’T SEE BAYWATCH!” The Rock replied.
Baywatch actually won a Razzie in 2017 for “The Razzie Nominee So Rotten You Loved It.” Johnson gave an acceptance speech, noting they made Baywatch with the best of intentions, but he would take the ‘L’ in stride.
