Last night was the New Year’s Evil edition of WWE NXT. The main event of the night was a match between Trick Williams and Grayson Waller. Kevin Owens showed up towards the end and got some payback on the Dynamite from Down Under.
Initially, Dragunov was supposed to defend his NXT Title against Trick Williams. But he wasn’t cleared to wrestle. Waller then showed up and wanted a match against Williams. Carmelo Hayes also stated that his friend would put his number one contenders’ spot on the line.
Towards the end of the match, Hayes was seemingly distracting Williams, and Waller looked to capitalize but Kevin Owens showed up and took out the SmackDown Superstar.
Following that, Sarah Schreiber interviewed the former WWE Universal Champion.
“Well… You know… I was watching at home, I don’t live too far from here. And once I saw that Grayson Waller was going to be involved, I figured, what better way to start 2024 than by getting some payback for the broken hand thing, you know he and Theory broke my hand… And I figured Theory might not be there, so great opportunity. I did, I did [took advantage of it]. Now, 2024 is off to a great start. And Friday I make it better by beating Santos Escobar. Moving on. Winning the whole tournament and I go on to the Royal Rumble, beat Logan Paul. Restore some sort of prestige to the US Title. Because he’s done a hell of a job bringing it way down. And then 2024 is… We are rocking. So, that’s about it. I’m going to go home now,” Kevin Owens said.
Owens is set to face Escobar on SmackDown to earn a shot at Paul’s US title.
