As we step into the new year, the IMPACT Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship will remain in the hands of Alex Shelley.
Alex Shelley captured the World Heavyweight Championship at the IMPACT Wrestling Against All Odds pay-per-view against Steve Maclin. Since then, Shelley has defended the title against some of the top talents around the world. Some of them are, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Nick Aldis, and many more. The reigning champion is set to defend his title against Moose at the upcoming TNA Hard To Kill pay-per-view.
With his title match a couple of weeks away, he has something more to celebrate. With the end of 2023, IMPACT Wrestling shared its list of top stars of the year. The top male wrestler of the year was awarded to the reigning IMPACT Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion, Alex Shelley.
Shelley took to Twitter to react to this. He also had an inspirational story about his struggles and how he worked hard to reach the top of the mountain.
“Let this be an example to whomever needs to hear it: 5 years ago, I lived in guest rooms. Studied for my boards. Didn’t wrestle. Was nearly broke. I worked my ass off to help myself and help others. The rest fell into place. Stay hungry,” Alex Shelley tweeted.
Will Chris Sabin challenge Alex Shelley in the future?
Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley are tag team partners. They have been a team for several years and have won multiple tag team championships. The two are currently the DPW Tag Team Champions as well.
During a recent interview on the Battleground podcast, Sabin revealed that he is enjoying his run as the X-Division Champion and doesn’t want to challenge his partner and best friend. Sabin also mentioned that he wants to see Alex Shelley succeed as the IMPACT Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion.
“I’m 1,000% happy being the X-Division Champion,” Chris Sabin said. “For a long time, I thought Alex Shelley deserved to be a world champion in some sort of major promotion. And I’m happy to see him finally accomplish that, and he’s having a good run.
“And I want him to continue that. He’s not just my partner; he’s one of my best friends. So I want him to succeed. And I have no –there’s no reason for me to go after him. I’m happy being X-Division Champion. I want him to enjoy his run on top.”
Do you think Alex Shelley can remain champion in 2024 as well?
