Jon Moxley discusses the new IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship.
At NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18, Jon Moxley will face David Finlay and Will Ospreay to crown the inaugural IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion. Finlay previously smashed the IWGP United States Championship. He also smashed Ospreay’s IWGP United Kingdom Championship.
NJPW’s official website posted an interview with Jon Moxley ahead of Wrestle Kingdom 18. In one highlight, Moxley was asked what he thinks needs to happen for the new title to be recognized on the world stage. He made it clear that he believes he needs to fight for it.
“This new title, this new championship, for it to be recognized on a world stage, then quite simply, Jon Moxley has to fight for it,” Moxley said. “There’s no better place than Wrestle Kingdom. [There’s] better place than the Tokyo Dome for me to do what I do.
Jon Moxley On David Finlay Smashing IWGP US Title
Jon Moxley also commented on David Finlay smashing the IWGP United States Championship. He noted that he somewhat admires Finlay for the gall it took. However, Moxley stated that the move “really does piss him off”, so he has his sights set on revenge.
“I put a lot of heart and soul and hard work into that IWGP United States Championship, and I do not take kindly to David Finlay smashing it with a big stupid Mario Kart hammer,” Jon Moxley said.
“Belts hold up your pants, but championships are a much different thing. The gall it took for Finlay to do what he did, I kind of admire it, but it really does piss me off.”
In the same interview, Moxley discussed his rivalry with Will Ospreay. Check out his comments here.
