Rob Van Dam would have loved to use “Walk” by Pantera in WWE, but the company had other ideas.
On the latest episode of 1 Of A Kind with Rob Van Dam, the WWE Hall of Famer was asked if he ever tried to use “Walk” when he joined the company, and RVD confirmed that he did.
“I did. Man, I tried,” Rob Van Dam said. “And I feel bad a little bit for whoever made my song that they used. When I first came in, there was a song, and I totally didn’t even want to pay attention to it, so I didn’t give it any thought. I said, ‘What about Walk?’ because I thought we owned the rights to the remake of it anyway because Paul paid Kilgore to do a cover of it.
“I was in that video. So I thought we had the rights, no problem. We’ll just use that version if we can’t get Pantera’s version. But I had to talk to Shane-O, and he was talking like he was into it. He was like, ‘I’ll listen to it this week. We’ll talk about it next week.’
“Then next week, he’s like, “Come on out to the truck. I want to show you something.” And I went out there, and he played ‘One of a Kind’ and said, what do you think? I was like, what happened to Walk? I really didn’t like ‘One of a Kind’ at first because I just didn’t want to give it a chance.”
RVD admitted that “One of a Kind” ended up growing on him due to the fan reaction, but still seemingly prefers to use Walk when he’s working on an independent show.
“But it grew on me because of the reaction from the fans,” Rob Van Dam admitted. “I mean, that’s all part of it, you know what I mean? When I wrestle now, and I’m at some various independent shows, and that promoter asks me earlier in the day, which song would you rather come out to?
“I always say, look, this is your town you know the people more. Because then I don’t know, and then when I’m getting ready to come out there if I hear ‘Walk’, then I’m like, sweet, it’s like an ECW type of town.”
