This past weekend was the AEW Full Gear pay-per-view. There was a lot of hype for the show. One of the main reasons was the fact that All Elite Wrestling CEO Tony Khan mentioned that at the event a world-class athlete would be officially signing with the promotion. The newest member of the roster was none other than Will Ospreay.
There was a lot of speculation about who the signing would be. Many were convinced that it was former WWE Superstar Ronda Rousey. This seemed to have been the case as the Baddest Woman On The Planet showed up at the latest Ring of Honor tapings. But it was in fact The Aerial Assassin.
This certainly did come as a surprise as Ospreay is still under contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling. The current IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion also addressed this and humbly asked the fans to wait until he is done with NJPW. After that, he will join the AEW roster on the Road to Revolution.
Following his appearance at the Full Gear pay-per-view, Ospreay took to Twitter to share a message to his fans.
“I [wiped] my feet on the mat and been given the keys to let myself in whenever I want. Thank you so much for the reception and I can’t wait to present to everyone the real Elitist,” Will Ospreay tweeted.
Will Ospreay claimed that AEW has everything that made him fall in love with pro wrestling
The Aerial Assassin also took part in the AEW Full Gear post-show Media Scrum. During the scrum, Ospreay mentioned the reason why he chose to sign with the Jacksonville-based promotion. He also revealed that he loves everything about AEW.
“I see AEW and I see the talent here, and I see everything that made me fall in love with pro wrestling. I followed it, I followed everything, the good, the bad, I followed it. I believe in this place. There was a promo that Moxley did ages ago, and he said, ‘It’s time to be a legend.’ At that point, there was that point, I was like, ‘I want this. I want it. I want to go here.’ While I’m here, I’m gonna give everything I’ve got to this place.
“Not just for myself, because I want to see if I’m that good, but I want to give back. I had this mad anxiety with coming over to America, huge anxiety coming over here. I’m willing to face that. I’m willing to just try my best now. It’s an amazing journey I’ve been on, man. I’m so grateful, and I’m just looking forward to it,” Will Ospreay said.
