Matt Cardona Takes All The Blame, Holds Himself Accountable For His WWE Run

Prior to being released from WWE, Matt Cardona was one of the most popular stars in the company. He didn’t achieve the massive success as fans would have thought he would, but now he’s enjoying a great run of success as an independent star.

While speaking on Swerve Strickland’s Swerve City podcast, the former WWE Superstar opened up about his run in the Stamford-based promotion. He stated that he’d never blame the company for whatever happened, but rather only blame himself for his run in the company.

“But when I look back I like to take accountability for myself. And I will put all the situation… All the blame of that situation on myself. I never want to be someone who, ‘They held me down.’ Or, ‘They buried’… I never wanted to be that guy. When I look back, could I have gone to Vince McMahon and said, ‘Hey Vince, like I’m one of the top merch sellers, I’m busting my ass, I’m over as f***. Why is this happening?’ I could have. But I didn’t.

“So I blame myself for not questioning why am I here and I am going lower and lower and lower and lower down the card while I’m still working my ass off. So I blame myself. I don’t want to blame the company, I don’t want to say I was buried, I don’t want to do any of that s***. Because then like just bitter and negative and f*** well sucks,” Matt Cardona said.

While speaking in the same podcast, the former WWE Intercontinental Champion emphasized the fact that prior to his YouTube show being brought over to the WWE’s channel he saw a rise in his career but after that, it went downhill.

“Once I brought it (my YouTube show) over to the WWE channel… The first year of my career is going up up up up up. Then after I bring it over to the channel, coincidentally, it is going down down down down down. They’re getting pushed off the stage in the wheelchair, all that stuff from Kane. People you know, they like to say you were buried or blah blah blah. And listen. I think I not only did I innovate social media, I think I also invented the passive-aggressive negative tweet (laughs).”

With Cardona’s wife Chelsea Green now in WWE, there seems to be a small window of opportunity for him to return to the Stamford-based promotion as well.
