When we discuss the history of professional wrestling a few names quickly pop up in our minds are great talents such as Hollywood Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and even Scott Hall. There have been rumors in the past that Scott Hall was uncomfortable when he shared the ring with Goldust. Recently, one of Hall’s closest friends, Kevin Nash discussed the truth behind the aforementioned rumors.
Goldust, who now goes by his real name Dustin Rhodes, is currently wrestling in AEW. Back then in WWE, when he was initially supposed to compete against Scott Hall. However, the latter was a bit hesitant to do so.
During the latest episode of the Kliq This podcast, Kevin Nash revealed the real reason behind this. According to Nash, Hall was not ready to explain to his child, who was five years old at the time about homosexuality. Thus, he was uncomfortable wrestling Goldust.
“He was very uncomfortable. They did the Goldust angle. He unzips his singlet, Goldust the character does, and there’s a heart, and on the heart, it says Razor. Scott’s son, Cody, was like five years old when that angle played. He came home and Cody said, ‘Dad, what does that mean?’ Scott, who wasn’t a homophobe, told Vince, he goes, ‘If I have to go home and explain this to my kid’, because you can’t just say, ‘Oh, well, you know, some men.’ I mean, you have to go into that whole, you know, and so Scott just said, ‘I don’t feel comfortable doing it.’ That’s all it was. It wasn’t that Scott was a homophobe. Scott just didn’t want to teach his five-year-old kid about homosexuality where now it’s a different world,” Kevin Nash said. [H/T Wrestling News.co]
WrestleMania XII
Razor Ramon and Goldust faced off nine times throughout 1995 and 1996. The most high-profile match came at the 1996 Royal Rumble. The pair was scheduled to face off in a rematch for the title at WrestleMania XII in a Miami Street Fight, but the match was pulled from the card. Scott Hall (Razor) was kept off of the card completely. Goldust moved on to a Hollywood Backstage Brawl against “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.
WWE producer Bruce Prichard shared on his Something To Wrestle podcast that Scott Hall refused to work with Goldust, so Vince McMahon pulled the match from the card. Prichard said he “didn’t want Razor to ruin WrestleMania” and if he wasn’t going to be invested in the match, why have it?
