TNA Wrestling Rebrand Details: When It Was Decided, Reason For Name Change

TNA Wrestling is back, and it was a decision that was not a knee-jerk reaction.

Saturday night’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view ended with the announcement that IMPACT will be known as TNA Wrestling again. The TNA Wrestling name change will officially start with the Hard To Kill pay-per-view on January 13, 2024.

PWInsider.com is reporting new details about why the company is reverting to the TNA name. It was noted that IMPACT originally planned to make the announcement at Slammiversary, but it was pushed back. The final decision to go back to TNA Wrestling was made 2-3 weeks ago.

According to company sources speaking with PWInsider, the decision will “unite the fragmented history” of the promotion, who used TNA, IMPACT, and Global Force Wrestling as names over its 20-plus year history. In addition, it was noted that some of the company’s international partners and fans still preferred the TNA name and still used it to refer to the company.

IMPACT originally planned to do a TNA spinoff, but the COVID-19 pandemic led to those plans being cancelled. Now, IMPACT has decided to just revive the TNA name for the existing show.

New championships have been commissioned featuring the TNA logo. The current champions will use them once introduced on TV in January. Current storylines and talent are expected to continue, just under the TNA name.

The report does state that there are zero plans to return to a six-sided ring, a staple for the original TNA run. It was noted that the option for this was never even discussed due to criticism of it by talent over the years.
