Tony Khan puts things in perspective.
AEW All In had an announced attendance of 81,035, which has been touted as a new record. That number was disputed by critics. This was later complicated with the release of various figures including turnstile counts and ticket distribution numbers.
Per the Freedom of Information office for the Brent Civic Centre, the actual number of individuals that the venue registered entering through the pay-per-view was 72,265. Wrestlenomics‘ Brandon Thurston later said local government officials gave him a total of 85,258. This was believed to be tickets distributed.
F4WOnline.com’s Dave Meltzer responded to a fan on Twitter asking about the attendance. Meltzer noted it was “unusual” to announce paid attendance rather than the total attendance.
AEW’s Tony Khan has since spoken out about the reason behind the announcement. Khan clarified that AEW set a paid ticket record, not an attendance one.
“The reason I announced the actual paid attendance 81,035 tickets sold, instead of saying over 85,000 tix distributed, is because our 81,035 sold at #AEWAllIn @WembleyStadium in London is the all-time ticket sales record, whereas WCW North Korea shows hold tix distributed record,” Khan wrote.
