Tony Khan Made Jade Cargill A Big Offer To Stay In AEW, Gave Her The ‘Best Possible Sendoff’

Tony Khan has nothing but good things to say about Jade Cargill.

During his AEW WrestleDream post-show media scrum, Tony Khan was about Jade Cargill leaving AEW and signing with WWE. Did he know Jade was going to WWE when he said he would welcome her back last month?

“I knew Jade’s contract had been ticking down and we were talking about a new contract. I was very interested in Jade coming back and we were having a negotiation,” he explained. “We made a very big offer and I thought it was a very fair offer. She was considering it and then she asked for a bigger offer. I went up again and I thought that was going to do it. It didn’t, and I was surprised because to be honest, I came up to a number that was higher than her original ask.

A Great Sendoff

“So I don’t know what I would have had to do at that point. I was a little surprised, but when I answered your question [at a pervious event] I hoped Jade would be back. I think I tried to handle it when we were down to the nitty-gritty and we were in the final weeks and we didn’t agree to something,” Khan pointed out, “then it was at the point where I said, ‘Well if you aren’t going to stay, I want to give you the best possible exit.’ And I have only good things to say about Jade. I really enjoyed working with her, she was a great part of AEW and she’s always welcome here. I tried to give her the best possible sendoff I could.”

Tony Khan went on to explain that the best sendoff he saw as a kid was Ric Flair leaving WWF after losing to Mr. Perfect. He said they didn’t embarrass Flair and they let him wrestle the match he should have with his dignity. Khan wanted to do that for Jade, and the rematch against Kris Statlander made the most sense.
