Eddie Kingston dethroned Claudio Castagnoli on AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam.
This year’s Grand Slam special kicked off with ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli facing NJPW STRONG Champion Eddie Kingston in a Title vs. Title bout. After a physical contest, Kingston powerbombed Castagnoli one last time to score the pinfall victory.
Their match on September 20 was the culmination of a years-long rivalry that has seen them battle in CZW, Chikara, and ROH. Their rivalry renewed again earlier this year as Castagnoli successfully defended the ROH World title against Kingston at ROH Supercard of Honor in March.
With the win, Kingston becomes ROH World Champion for the first time in his career. He’s also the first man to hold the ROH and NJPW STRONG titles simultaneously. Meanwhile, Castagnoli’s second title run ends at 284 days.
