John Cena continues to endorse Roman Reigns in a huge way.
Ahead of his match at WWE Superstar Spectacle in India, John Cena was asked by Sportskeeda’s Riju Dasgupta if he saw Roman Reigns as his successor in WWE.
“In my perspective, I think Roman Reigns is the greatest of all time,” Cena replied.
John Cena arrived in India’s Hyderabad city on Friday for a blockbuster tag team match with World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins against Imperium’s Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci.
The 16-time World Champion will return to SmackDown on September 15.
Passing of the torch
Reigns and Cena have known each other for a long time. They didn’t have a singles match against each other until 2017. WWE was struggling to get the Big Dog over with the fans and brought in Cena to accomplish the task.
After a promo battle on WWE RAW that saw Cena commit a verbal onslaught on Reigns, the two met in singles competition at No Mercy on September 24, 2017. In the end, Reigns triumphed over Cena with a spear.
The two shook hands after the match in what was seen as a passing of the torch moment.
Record-setting champion
Cena’s endorsement of Roman Reigns comes nearly a month after the Tribal Chief surpassed Hulk Hogan as the longest-reigning WrestleMania era champion. Reigns’ 1625-day reign eclipsed the Hulkster’s first 1,474-day reign with the top title.
The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion last defended his title against Jey Uso at SummerSlam 2023. He is on his post-SummerSlam hiatus and reportedly set to return to WWE television after October’s Fastlane premium live event.
