In an update to MLW‘s lawsuit against WWE, the latter has admitted that Stephanie McMahon spoke with a Tubi executive.
WWE filed a response to MLW’s complaint in their antitrust lawsuit on August 14. MLW had claimed that WWE’s Stephanie McMahon pressured a Tubi executive to kill their deal with MLW.
In WWE’s filing, the company admits that Stephanie McMahon spoke with a Tubi Executive on August 9, 2021. However, WWE denied the argument that McMahon pressured them to kill any deal that they had with MLW. In the filing, WWE stated that the allegations refer to a document “not cited in or attached to the FAC.”
As for MLW, in their filing, they claimed that McMahon spoke with a Tubi executive and pressured them to give MLW a time slot that would have competed with WWE NXT. The filing argues that McMahon then pressured Tubi and other FOX executives to terminate their agreement with MLW entirety. MLW claimed that WWE threatened that Tubi or FOX could lose WWE’s business or preferred content if they did not agree to do so.
MLW also claimed that, the night before a planned press release about a planned deal with WWE, they received a letter that seemingly ended the license agreement. In the filing, MLW claimed that WWE interfered with the agreement and “caused “procured” its termination. As a result, per MLW, WWE cost them “access to and competition in major national media markets.
WWE’s motion to dismiss MLW’s lawsuit was denied in June. More information is available here.
