Sonny Kiss On Finding Her Comfort Zone: It Was Not An Easy Journey

Sonny Kiss is comfortable in her own skin.

All Elite Wrestling‘s Sonny Kiss was a recent guest on The LGBT Sport Podcast. When asked about finding her comfort zone in wrestling, Kiss admitted it hasn’t been an easy journey for her.

“It clearly was not an easy journey, no. It wasn’t, but it’s definitely a little bit of both,” Sonny Kiss said. “I would say it was happening gradually and naturally. It just wasn’t happening fast. Like even still now, like when I signed to AEW, I was just billed as a gay man.

“But now in 2023, you know, I’m a trans feminine human being. So it’s like, it’s a little bit different. And so a lot has changed in the last five years. And yeah, I think I’ve kind of grown right before people’s eyes, and I’ve helped a lot of people grow by doing that.

Sonny Kiss: I repackaged myself by growing and loving myself more

When asked about her journey playing out in the public eye, Kiss said it’s been one of self-discovery.

“Yeah, oh, yeah. It’s a development for sure,” Sonny Kiss admitted. “And a lot of times, when you’re a person who, like, you know, is on this journey of self-discovery, which everyone is, and that’s a lifelong thing, but when you’re on this journey, sometimes you thought you found yourself, and it’s like, you’re finding yourself again, as like, ‘Oh, this is how I feel,’ and ‘Oh, I want to try this out. Oh, I want to be this way.’

“I always knew I definitely wasn’t finished just being who I am. I knew there was more to me, it’s just a matter of when, and I feel like now is a time where I’m finally, truly, loving who I am and embracing who I am completely, and not holding back.”

When asked if finding herself has made her a better wrestler, Kiss said it’s helped with reinventing her character.

“Oh yeah, ’cause you’re reinventing yourself constantly,” Sonny Kiss said. “And in pro wrestling, it’s the same thing. But I just happen to be doing it authentically and you know, personally with who I am as a person, and just…yeah, I’m basically developing and re-packaging my own shell naturally. So it’s like, [in] wrestling you get kind of repackaged in different storylines and stuff like that. But I repackaged myself by growing and loving myself more.”
