Gunther‘s remarkable reign continues, as he retained the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WWE SummerSlam.
“The Ring General” has held the WWE Intercontinental Championship for over 400 days, as he won the gold on the June 10, 2022, episode of WWE SmackDown. At WWE SummerSlam, Gunther defended the title against former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre.
The two stars went back and forth in a competitive bout. Gunther evaded multiple Claymore attempts, but McIntyre took control with a dive to the outside. “The Ring General” took flight with a top-rope splash. He then traded stiff blows with McIntyre.
McIntyre eventually hit the Claymore, but Gunther kicked out. In the end, Gunther went a little low as he somewhat hit McIntyre below the belt. He then hit another splash and pinned McIntyre with a powerbomb.
Gunther currently stands 32 days away from breaking Honky Tony Man’s record for the longest WWE Intercontinental Championship reign.
