The 2023 edition of WWE’s Elimination Chamber took place in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and Kevin Owens wasn’t very happy to not be on the card for it.
Speaking to the Toronto Sun, Owens brought up the pay-per-view that took place in his hometown. Owens said that he was “hurt” that he wasn’t on the card for it, especially after he believes he was instrumental in bringing the show to the city.
“I wasn’t on that show and that hurt,” Owens said. “I’ve got to be honest with you … a sold-out pay-per-view in my hometown. To be quite honest, I think I was pretty instrumental in bringing it there. Because right after we did Raw and Smackdown (in Montreal), I kept telling them we need a pay-per-view there, we need a pay-per-view there. And they finally do it and I’m not even on the show. That sucked.”
Glass Half-Full
2023’s Elimination Chamber was headlined by Owens’ friend and now co-Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champion Sami Zayn. Sami was in the middle of his absolutely incredible run and facing Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
While Kevin Owens did appear at the end to save Zayn from an assault at the hand of The Bloodline, he still wasn’t happy about not being in a match. Despite that, he was happy to see his friend get that moment.
“I’m not going to mince my words, that sucked and I was upset about it,” said Owens. “But what can you do? I did get to show up in the end there a little bit. But by that point, it was nothing, it was meaningless. But to see Sami get that moment, to see Sami get that reaction, to see Sami get something he deserved for so long, that really made that a lot easier to swallow. And it’s all a credit to him.”
