Rey Mysterio suffered an injury on the July 28 episode of WWE SmackDown, and a new report provides more information.
Mysterio faced Santos Escobar in the finals of the United States Championship Invitational on Friday. Mysterio seemingly hit his head during a dive to the outside, and the match was called off shortly thereafter. The veteran was deemed unfit to continue, so Escobar won the bout.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that Mysterio’s injury was legitimate. Citing sources, Sapp wrote that the spot was not a storyline, which had initially been suspected. Escobar was set to win the match cleanly, but an audible changed the finish when Mysterio sustained the injury. Per Sapp, a backstage segment linked to the match was nixed from WWE SmackDown.
Per Wade Keller of PWTorch, Mysterio suffered a suspected concussion.
WrestleZone wishes Mysterio will in his recovery, and we will provide more information as it becomes available.
