LA Knight is becoming one of WWE‘s hottest stars, but he reveals that he thinks he got fired before he got another chance.
Knight signed with WWE in 2021, and he moved to the main roster as Max Dupri, the manager of the Maximum Male Models, in May 2022. After a brief run with the group, he reverted back to the LA Knight character. Since then, he has become a fan-favorite star, and he is riding a lot of momentum.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Knight was asked to detail the conversations he had with Triple H when he was about to shift from Dupri back to the LA Knight character. He then described how he thinks he was fired, but it hadn’t happened yet. Knight explained how, somehow, he was saved, and he was able to start rolling with a character that came naturally to him.
“Well, let me just go ahead and say this, I’m pretty sure I was fired, and it just hadn’t officially happened yet. Without getting into too many details, some things happened, I don’t remember when it was, but some things happened. Then I had gotten a FaceTime. ‘Hey, we want to keep you around, we want to do this, this, that, whatever.’ Okay, cool, good. Somehow, I’d been saved from being thrown off the cliff. At least this is my interpretation of it. Maybe I’m incorrect, I don’t know. So eventually, things kind of worked out.
“I think that, maybe again, maybe some of the testament to why things are working the way they are and the people are reacting the way they are is because one of these was not me, and I didn’t know who it was. One of these is very much just me, like I don’t have to think about LA Knight. I don’t really have to dig in, like what is this? Who am I? What am I doing? I just go and do because it’s just me heightened. I am a heightened personality at the party, so to me, my personality on TV, it’s an amalgamation of me at a party and me in an argument, and when you put those two together, you’ve got LA Knight.”
Knight will compete in the Men’s Money in the Bank match at WWE Money in the Bank match on July 1. WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs.
