Miro credits John Cena for helping him figure out how to connect with the audience and tell stories in the ring.
All Elite Wrestling‘s Miro was a recent guest on Good Karma Wrestling to discuss his return to the company this week. Miro will appear on AEW Collision, but he says he’s not too concerned with any specific opponents. The Redeemer just wants to show up and beat people up.
“I really don’t care. I don’t have that pull, I just show up, I beat people, whatever they tell me,” Miro said. “I deliver my promos and everything else is up to him, to the man that sits on the top of the chair. I’m not that guy that [says] I want to work with this guy or that guy.
“No man, give me your best, I will take them all. With that being said, it’s all about the stories. It’s not [just] about who you are fighting. It’s about how you get there. Let’s get there in a way that people are going to be intrigued by it, then let’s have a good match after that. I’m interested in the storytelling.”
While a lot of wrestlers care about their star ratings, The Redeemer is more concerned about telling stories and committing to his character.
“It’s about committing to a character. Once you half-ass it, these people can tell right away,” Miro said. “I’ve always prided myself, not [on] the greatest Dave Meltzer six-star matches and all of that irrelevant stuff, I always pride myself with the crowd reaction and connection with the people. That’s always going to be my number one goal, to connect with the fans, give the reaction that I want to receive, and go by that.
“I know I’m the best at that because I don’t just put together my stuff ‘A, B, C, D, E, F, whatever…’ I want to be out there and feel what these people see, and that’s something I learned from [John] Cena. It’s not just about the match, it’s about who is out there, who is watching, the lows, the highs.
“That’s what I learned wrestling John Cena 300 days, which some of these people don’t even have that many matches. I wrestled this man for years and years and years, and he’s just one of my mentors and teachers. I could name Hall Of Famers that taught me it’s not just about the match; it’s about the connection.”
