AJ Styles was not originally planned for Monday’s WWE RAW.
The Memorial Day edition of RAW featured the fallout from WWE Night of Champions, which led to an unexpected appearance from SmackDown star AJ Styles. According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Styles’ involvement was a last-minute decision as he had flown home on Sunday after making the trip to Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, Johnson noted that it was Vince McMahon who made the call for Styles to appear. On Monday night, “The Phenomenal One” appeared in the opening segment alongside WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, which set up their eventual tag team match against The Judgment Day in the main event.
The addition of Styles was reportedly the only major change that was made to the finalized script. It was also stated that WWE is not abandoning the brand split after recently holding another draft.
The news of McMahon making a last-minute change comes fresh of Fightful Select‘s report on Monday that McMahon has been making creative changes as he sees fit remotely. The Executive Chairman has not been seen at any WWE events since he caused a stir during WrestleMania week.
