Jake Roberts almost got a new (mechanical) friend.
Speaking on The Snake Pit, Jake Roberts was asked if AEW considered giving him a snake for Double Or Nothing 2020.
“Oh yeah, they joked about getting a mechanical snake. I’d love to see that. Hope it’s got a button for bite,” Roberts quipped.
Roberts is well-known for using two snakes, Damien and Lucifer, during his career in WWE, but he has not used one in AEW. Asked by co-host Marcus DeAngelo why the company would not use a live snake, Jake Roberts said it was a network issue.
“Problems with TNT, man. They didn’t want it. One and only time. Plus, it was so small. That was a small snake. I was disappointed with that. I think they were just being careful with TV. You gotta remember, they hadn’t been on TV that long. They didn’t want to try their luck with firing something out there that they knew they’d be unhappy with. TV’s what it’s all about. If you’re not on there, you’re gone,” Roberts explained. “Today you can’t do these things, man. No fun for the snake man. Bullsh-t. I’ll have my fun.”
Roberts closed by saying it’d be “awesome” to get a mechanical snake in the future.
