John Cena has confronted many oddities in his WWE career, but nothing truly compared to The Firefly Fun House.
As the world shut itself down in 2020, WWE stepped up to deliver WrestleMania 36 with some special twists, including two pre-taped cinematic matches. Those contests featured four of WWE’s top stars. As The Undertaker and AJ Styles competed in a Boneyard match on night one, John Cena and Bray Wyatt battled in a Firefly Fun House match on night two.
During an appearance at 92NY Recanati-Kaplan Talks, John Cena was asked to recall the most rewarding feud from his wrestling career. For Cena, it was the Firefly Fun House match with Bray Wyatt. As Cena alludes to, the production referenced several highlights of Cena and Wyatt’s careers. It also paid nods to Vince McMahon, the New World Order, and other memorable WWE figures.
“I did a unique piece of programming called the Firefly Fun House match, which was a giant exercise in vulnerability. I worked my ass off on that thing,” Cena said. “And I thank everyone who was involved because no one does it alone, but it was kind of my brainchild and my creation. You want to talk about looking in the mirror, that was kind of a public look in the mirror. “
“I’m glad we did it, and I’m glad it worked. I didn’t think anybody would get it, and I kind of did it for me because of the pandemic happened and the events were weird. But I’m really glad that people understood it. There’s a lot of Easter eggs in there, too. If you don’t know, you can go back and watch it. I got to be in the NWO.”
Outside of the Firefly Fun House, Cena named his WrestleMania 34 match against The Undertaker as another rewarding experience.
