A new report shines some light on Brian Cage‘s contract status following ROH Supercard of Honor.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that Cage’s AEW contract expired, and he agreed to work through ROH Supercard of Honor. There, Cage, Kaun, and Toa Liona retained the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship against Metalik, AR Fox, and Blake Christian, so Cage still holds a title despite technically being a free agent.
Per Sapp, Cage has a long-term contract on the table from AEW, and the company has also attempted to sign him to a short-term extension ahead of discussions for a longer deal. The report notes that conversations between the two side are on going, and they have been productive.
As previously reported, AEW/ROH tried to extend Cage’s contract due to injury, as he was hurt when he initially signed, but he has “pushed back” on these attempts. Sapp wrote that powerful members of both AEW and ROH have hoped that he would land with their respective companies.
At the ROH Supercard of Honor post-show press conference, Tony Khan was asked about Cage’s contract status, and he made it clear that he would like to see Cage stay with ROH/AEW for a long time. Check out his comments here.
