Gisele Shaw opens up about a recent experience she had, in which WWE Hall of Famer Rick Steiner made derogatory comments about her status as a transgender woman.
In a tweet, Shaw described how Steiner made derogatory comments about her during the WrestleCon convention. Shaw noted that she heard someone yelling, “You’re a man”, “you’re a dude,” “you’re a piece of trash,” and “you are fifth,” and she saw that Steiner was making the comments. Shaw stated that she confronted Steiner, and he didn’t stop. She also wrote that while some other legends who were nearby didn’t do anything, some of her co-workers at IMPACT intervened.
WrestleCon responded with a statement and noted that they regretted the events that took place, and they aim to promote a safe and inclusive environment for all LGBTQIA+ members of the wrestling community.
PWInsider reports that, following his remarks, Steiner was told he was not permitted to participate in the rest of WrestleCon.
IMPACT Wrestling also issued a statement that emphasized the company’s full support of Shaw and the LGBTQ+ community.
IMPACT also thanked the fans who have supported Shaw, as well as the WrestleCon staff and IMPACT’s roster and crew for their professionalism in handling an “ugly situation.”
