Josh Alexander Vacates IMPACT World Title Due To Injury

The injuries in IMPACT Wrestling continue as it has been announced that Josh Alexander has suffered a triceps tear.

It was announced Friday morning on Busted Open Radio by Dave LaGreca that Alexander will be forced to vacate the IMPACT World Championship due to injury, and a new champion will be crowned at Rebellion.

Here is the official statement from Dave LaGreca regarding the IMPACT World Championship situation:

“IMPACT has informed Busted Open that Josh Alexander is out of action indefinitely. A new World Champion to be crowned April 16 at the Rebellion pay-per-view. The record-setting title run of Josh Alexander is officially over, and that’s unfortunate because he has been one heck of a champion. He will have to relinquish the IMPACT Wrestling World Championship due to a triceps tear that will require surgery, IMPACT confirmed.”

IMPACT later issued a press release announcing more details about Alexander’s status and replacements for some of his upcoming matches.

First, Steve Maclin will replace Josh Alexander to team with Rich Swann and Frankie Kazarian against Time Machine (Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin and KUSHIDA) at Sacrifice on March 24. Alexander was originally scheduled to face KUSHIDA at the co-branded IMPACT x New Japan Pro-Wrestling Multiverse United show on Thursday, March 30. His replacement in that match will be announced at a later date.

A new world champion will be crowned at Rebellion on April 16 when Steve Maclin faces KUSHIDA for the now-vacant world title.

“We wish Josh a full and speedy recovery, and everyone at IMPACT Wrestling, including our loyal fans, can’t wait to see him back in the ring,” said IMPACT Wrestling president Scott D’Amore.

Josh Alexander also commented on the unfortunate news, posting the following:

“Safe to say this news is devastating. I’ve torn my tricep. I will have to relinquish my @IMPACTWRESTLING World title immediately,” Alexander wrote. “I’m heading into surgery momentarily. I’m so thankful for my Impact family for the support. I’ll be back & I’ll be better than ever.”

Josh Alexander won the IMPACT World Championship for a second time at Rebellion 2022 and he is the longest-reigning IMPACT World Champion in company history. His reign is recognized as lasting 335 days.

This news comes hot off the heels of an announcement from IMPACT on Thursday night that Knockouts Champion Mickie James is injured and will not be able to compete at Sacrifice. You can read about that announcement by clicking here.
