Daniel Cormier is going to WrestleMania, but not directly with WWE.
Cormier got involved with WWE ahead of Extreme Rules 2022; he appeared via satellite on the October 3 episode WWE RAW to announce that he would be the special guest referee for the Fight Pit match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle at the pay-per-view. The former UFC star has talked about his interest in wrestling before, and now he’ll be involved with the biggest show of the year.
Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Cormier announced that he will be working with ESPN and leading their coverage of WrestleMania 39.
“I’m going to WrestleMania,” Cormier said. “The first week of April for ESPN, I’ll be leading the coverage for WrestleMania. I’m so excited about it.”
The UFC Hall of Famer noted that he’s open to wrestling, but he’s focused on commentary right now.
“I’m getting more opportunities for ESPN, and I’m so thankful for that,” Cormier said. “So I’ll be at WrestleMania, just in a different capacity, and we’ll see what the future holds down the line.”
Cormier also joked that he’d get physical with Brock Lesnar if he crossed paths with the former UFC Heavyweight Champion.
“If Brock steps in my way?” Cormier asked with a laugh. “I’ll smack him upside his head.”
Cormier has repeatedly discussed a potential match with Lesnar. At WrestleMania 39, they’ll at least both be involved with the show in different capacities, as Lesnar is set to face Omos.
