Ricky Starks: Powerhouse Hobbs And I Got Over On Our Own, Fans Can Appreciate That

Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs are currently rising through the ranks of All Elite Wrestling. But before they found singles success, they were a tag team in Team Taz first.

Ahead of his match with Chris Jericho at AEW Revolution, Ricky Starks sat down with Stephanie Chase to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about his tag team run with Powerhouse Hobbs, Starks believes the two men went out there and got over on their own, and that’s something fans can appreciate.

“Me and Hobbs went out there, and we did it on our own. We got what we wanted out there on our own,” Ricky Starks said. “The people fell in love with us, on our own. And there’s a lot of that in my career. And there’s a lot of that in Hobbs’s career too, where we’re doing it on our own.

“We’re doing it by ourselves, and I think that is what people can appreciate the most. So taking that time and now utilizing it in a singles-type environment has only done us wonders. I thought it was cool that he won in his hometown, finally.

“If I’m not mistaken, I want to say that Hobbs’ second time being in — maybe third time, I’m not sure. But it’s more than once that he’s been in that type of match. The other time me and him were in the same match for Revolution, where Wardlow won.

“So it’s good to see him now at that point. And I think the time that we had together where he leaned on me for certain things, and I leaned on him for certain things, has only helped us grow exponentially.”

When asked if he feels Team Taz ended at the right time, Starks believes there’s a time for everything and believes Hobbs turning on him was likely the moment both of them needed to advance their careers in All Elite Wrestling.

“Yeah, I think — I mean, I wouldn’t have wanted someone to turn on me like that,” Ricky Starks admitted. “But I guess there’s a time for everything. And so maybe that was it. Maybe that was the moment that we needed.”
