The Gunns have the acting bug.
WrestleZone recently spoke with The Gunns, who were two of the many wrestling stars in a recent Mack Masters commercial. In addition to Austin and Colten, the spot also featured AEW’s Brody King, Rey Fenix, Danhausen and Evil Uno, as well as IMPACT Wrestling’s Jonathan Gresham, Jordynne Grace, Masha Slamovich, and Zicky Dice.
The Gunns spoke about their experience shooting the commercial, noting that it was a unique experience that allowed them to step away from a “traditional” wrestling experience.
Colten: “Brody King hit me really hard. But other than that, it was a fun experience shooting my first commercial. My first time dealing with anything like that. So, it was a fun and unique experience for me except Brody King hitting me in the face over and over.”
Austin: “Yeah, I’ll counter that answer. It was cool to be in a production set that wasn’t wrestling. It was cool to see how a commercial worked with the end goal. And it was kind of the same thing, trying to achieve a goal and mix in with the wrestlers and see what we could do and highlight our spots. Then I looked over to my left and saw Colten getting decked by Brody King for real. I went, ‘Alright, maybe this isn’t for us, this commercial business.’”
Austin also appeared in a cameo role in Missing Persons, the 2022 film featuring his father, Billy Gunn, and Dustin Rhodes. Austin said he eventually wants to get into acting and reflected on getting to work with his dad in a different capacity.
Austin: “Yeah, I know eventually I want to start going into acting. I think that’s always been my wheelhouse, just being an entertainer. I don’t want to regret not at least trying acting like when I got an opportunity to have one line, when I got on set, I was there strictly just to support dad, and then Dustin was there. So it was a cool kind of like dad-son experience on set, help him with his lines, reading his lines to him. We were going over it in the trailer. That was fun just to hang out with him for a weekend. And then they said I was going to have a cameo, so I was super nervous.
“You’re in a different industry kind of and I’ve never really acted for real. It was a really cool experience to be on set and see how it worked, go through the scene and film it from different angles. It was more of an experience thing, but when I look back on it, I’m glad I pushed myself into doing something different that I’m not used to. At the time I was just like, ‘Man, this is kind of cool to be in a movie.’ Whatever scale it is, being in a movie and doing something with your dad is always just really fun to do.”
