If CM Punk were on his way back to All Elite Wrestling, Dax Harwood would be the last person to tell you.
All Elite Wrestling‘s Dax Harwood recently sat down with Inside The Ropes to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked if he’s had any issues backstage due to his friendship with CM Punk, Harwood admitted that no one really cares about that there.
“I would like to tell you and say, either it is negative, or I don’t want to speak on that,” Dax Harwood said. “Because people have thought, and I’ve read it online, where they think the reason that we didn’t get the success in 2022 that we should have gotten, like being on TV more, was because we were friends with Punk. That’s not the case at all.
“Also, in the back, I think that there are a lot of Punk friends and Punk supporters, a lot more than what is being told online, but AEW has never had an issue with him being my friend. We’re friends. I don’t go on television with a wrist tape that says I love Punk. You know what I mean? He and I are friends, and they know that’s okay. And they know that I’m gonna have friends.
“So Tony or Megha or the Bucks or Kenny or nobody has ever had a problem with that with me being the friend or being a supporter of him. I mean, what can I do? Or what can I say? He’s just someone I enjoy being around, hanging out with, and talking to. So no, dude, it’s the complete opposite, actually. They really don’t give a shit that I’m friends with him.”
When asked if he believes Punk is likely to return to All Elite Wrestling, Harwood played coy and admitted that even if he knew, he wouldn’t say a word to protect the mystique of professional wrestling.
“So a few months ago, I wasn’t even there. I think the last time we were at AEW as a talent was in the middle of December, so I haven’t been there. So I have no clue. And if I did have a clue, I wouldn’t tell anybody,” Dax Harwood said. “Because, again, it’s that mystique of what’s real. What’s not real? Yeah, Dave’s tunes also kind of changed recently.
“I got a text message from my podcast co-host Matt Koon just the other day, and he said, Hmm, it seems like someone —talking about me — has changed the narrative on Punk, and now it’s looking more positive. So I don’t know, I have no idea. If I did have an idea how close we were, there’s no way I would tell because there is a mystique and wrestling. There’s a wall we have to keep up. And I think it’s f**king fun to keep that wall up sometimes.”
