Cody Rhodes doesn’t have a preference between a singles match against Roman Reigns and a triple threat bout at WWE WrestleMania 39.
The road to WrestleMania 39 seemed fairly clear when Rhodes returned at WWE Royal Rumble and won the Men’s Royal Rumble match to earn a world title shot at “The Showcase of the Immortals.” The next night, he confirmed that his sights are set on WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, and WWE announced a match between the two for WrestleMania.
But Sami Zayn complicated the path forward when he turned on Reigns at the end of WWE Royal Rumble and, on the following episode of SmackDown, stated that he wanted a shot at the gold. Reigns agreed to give him a match, and they will clash at WWE Elimination Chamber on February 18. As a result, some fans have been divided between their interest in Zayn dethroning Reigns and Rhodes getting his ultimate WrestleMania moment and finishing his story of winning the gold.
Speaking on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Rhodes was asked about the possibility of a triple threat match with Reigns and Zayn at WrestleMania, and he made oit clear that he doesn’t have a preference. “The American Nightmare” praised the work Zayn is doing and noted that he doesn’t begrudge Sami for getting hot” as he has throughout this run.
“No, I don’t really have a preference,” Rhodes said. “Solely because I want to wrestle the best. People wanted a contender forever. So if two show up, don’t be mad. Don’t make it about A or B, or B or A, or one or two. Enjoy it all. That’s really been kind of the challenge. I can’t begrudge a dude getting super hot. I have no preference in terms of the direction it goes. I really look forward to the moments when I’m in there, if they happen, Sami, whether that’s just on the road to WrestleMania. I think it’s different than people think. I think he’s doing amazing.
“I feel like I’ve been able to really do some great stuff too. So bring it all together. Who knows what happens in Montreal? Who knows what happens at WrestleMania? One of the reason I keep the serene and the peace and the calm [is] because I don’t know what’s gonna… I’m not the executive vice president. I think some people think I’ve got that EVP stroke. I barely had it in the first place. I wanna play quarterback, I wanna get in the game, and I’ll compete for that position.”
