Samu Anoa’i explains what went wrong with The Bloodline Acknowledgement Ceremony.
The Bloodline has been a prominent act on WWE TV since 2020, when Jey Uso sided with Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Jimmy Uso later returned and joined the duo, and Sami Zayn gradually worked his way into the faction in 2022. The faction grew when Solo Sikoa debuted and aligned with Reigns at WWE Clash at the Castle. In addition to their strength in numbers, the group holds plenty of gold.
Reigns unified the WWE and Universal titles by beating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38. The Usos won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship at Money in the Bank 2021 and became the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions in May 2022 by defeating RK-Bro to win the RAW Tag Team Championships. With this dominance in mind, The Bloodline was set to hold an Acknowledgement Ceremony on the January 23 episode of WWE RAW, but the ceremony never happened. Instead, the stable put Zayn on trial for his perceived disloyalty.
Speaking on the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling Podcast, Samu, a member of the Anoai’ wrestling family, was asked whether he and Rikishi were supposed to be part of the segment. He stated that was the case, as far as he knew, but his dad, Afa, couldn’t fly, and Rikishi had pneumonia, so they had to change the plans.
“From what I know, yeah. It was supposed to be Rikishi, myself, my dad and my uncle, to make a few. My dad couldn’t fly at the time, and Rikishi had pneumonia at the time, so everything just got put on the back burner.
When asked to share his thoughts on The Bloodline’s success, Samu stated that he’s proud of being able to see them in the spotlight. However, he noted that he wishes his son Lance Anoa’i, who currently competes for Major League Wrestling, could join the mix.
“Proud to be able to watch these kids do their thing. I’m proud to be here. I’m hoping one day they’ll smarten up and put my son in there, Too. Lance [Anoa’i], he’s been busting his ass. [He’s] been in the ring since was five years old, but everybody’s got their turn, so he’s still in the shadows, waiting his turn. He’s still doing what he loves.
The Bloodline continues to evolve; at WWE Royal Rumble, Zayn turned on the group. He will challenge Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WWE Elimination Chamber.
