Fortune was one of the more popular stables in the history of IMPACT Wrestling which consisted of Ric Flair, AJ Styles, Frankie Kazarian, and Beer Money.
Frankie Kazarian was the latest guest on IMPACT Press Pass to answer a wide variety of questions. When asked about the group Fortune that was part of earlier in his IMPACT career, Kazarian said he knew being paired with Ric Flair on television would give him the rub.
“Being in Fortune was very cool for me. At the time that group started, I was kind of — I wouldn’t say floundering, but I was just kind of trying to find an identity,” Frankie Kazarian said. “Then all of a sudden, the decision was made to put me in there with Ric Flair, and immediately when you’re in there with someone like that, that’s called getting the rub.
“In case you don’t know anytime you’re going to be on screen, and Ric Flair is singing your praises or endorsing you, that’s getting a rub, so I did not take that lightly at all, and I hung around Ric as much as I can and picked his brain and learned a lot and being out there with my friends like Bobby [Roode] and AJ [Styles] and just filming stuff. And it was so much fun.
“And I think it raised my stock a lot. It really kind of submitted me as a player for the first time as a singles guy that’s not just an X-Division guy. That kind of really gave me the opportunity to be in the mix with just singles guys and not just kind of be pigeonholed as just an X-Division guy. So that was really cool.
“Like I said, I didn’t take that lightly, and you’re not the only one to say that. Anytime I’m at a signing or a show, people come up and talk about how much they enjoyed Fortune, and my only regret with that is I wish we could have ran with it a little bit longer because I think we still had legs. But those decisions weren’t up to me.”
When asked who he would pair together now to create a new Fortune, Kazrian wasn’t ready to commit to naming anyone just yet, but he’s going to keep his eyes open for a potential opportunity down the line.
“In terms of creating a new Fortune now. That’s very, very difficult to say,” Frankie Kazarian admitted. “I mean, I’m still pretty new to this locker room. So I kind of really have to see the personalities of the roster. Because Fortune basically was a heavyweight guy, a tag team, and an X-Division guy. And in the original Fortune, I was the X-Division guy. AJ was the heavyweight guy and Beer Money, of course, was the tag team.
“So, in my incarnation of Fortune, I would be the heavyweight guy. So I would have to find me a young, hungry, perhaps arrogant tag team, and the same goes for an X Division guy. I honestly can’t answer that right now because I would be doing a disservice because I would like to get to know everybody a little bit better. But I’ll be keeping my eyes open just in case I want to resurrect Fortune.”
