Gunther On Why Imperium Is Different: We’re Authentic, People Can Relate To That

Gunther says Imperium is different from the rest.

Gunther and Kaiser were part of the Ringkampf stable before they signed with WWE. Imperium was born in WWE in 2019, as Gunther (then known as Walter) aligned with Fabian Aichner (Giovanni Vinci) and Marcel Barthel (Kaiser).  The group also included Alexander Wolfe for a brief period of time before he was kicked out in 2021. Gunther and Kaiser moved to SmackDown in 2022, and they were joined by Vinci at Clash at the Castle 2022. The group has been dominant throughout its main roster run, as Gunther has held the WWE Intercontinental Championship since June 2022.

During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Gunther was asked to describe what sets Imperium aside from other stables in the wrestling world. He described how the faction is different, as it is authentic, and the stablemates truly connect with each other. Gunther also shared his belief that fans can relate to their seriousness as competitors.

“I think we’re just different from the others. It’s always about…the music hits and you walk out, there is a certain vibe people can relate to right away? I think what makes our group stand out is, it’s authentic. I think people can really tell that us three, we really connect with each other in what we represent in the ring. That we really got our backs, and I think people can just relate to that, and everybody can just understand what we want to represent in the ring as well.

“We are three European guys, who are very proud of being European wrestlers, and want to promote that style on every stage they’re on. We take this, what we do, maybe an inch more serious than anybody else, if you compare us to other groups or other wrestlers. I think everybody can relate to that, and I think that’s what people respect as well.”

Gunther has declared for the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble Match. Check out the updated list of entrants here.
