A new report shines some light on William Regal‘s new role in WWE.
Regal had been with WWE since 2000, first as an on-screen talent and later in a backstage role. He was highly influential in the evolution of the NXT brand under Triple H. Regal was named WWE’s Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting until he was released in January 2022. He then signed with AEW and was featured as on-screen talent there. Regal formed the Blackpool Combat Club with Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley shortly after his debut at AEW Revolution in March.
He was ultimately written off AEW TV shortly after he betrayed Moxley and helped MJF win the AEW World Championship at AEW Full Gear. AEW President Tony Khan confirmed that Regal asked the company not to renew his contract option at the end of the year so he could return to WWE and work with his son, Charlie Dempsey. Multiple outlets reported that Regal signed with WWE, and he started with the company in the first week of January, though is role had been unclear.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Regal’s job title is Vice President, Global Talent Development. As of this writing, it’s unclear what the role entails. WWE previously announced the looming launch of NXT Europe, and both Triple H and Shawn Michaels have discussed the possibility of further expansion.
Regal previously commented on his last day with AEW. Check out his comments here.
