Luke Hawx reveals how he landed his role on Young Rock.
Not only does Luke Hawx compete regularly for NWA, but he’s also an actor for the hit NBC show Young Rock which covers the life of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Hawx recently spoke to Deadspin about how he landed the role of portraying “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Interestingly, it actually started as a different phone call.
“Landing the role as Steve Austin for Young Rock was pretty funny because they called me to potentially step in for coordinating the wrestling,” Hawx revealed. “Chavo Guerrero’s their stunt coordinator, and he had previously accepted another contract and they kind of overlapped each other. So they thought they were going to lose Chavo, and they needed someone to come in and back him up. I did it, well I didn’t do it. I was in negotiations with them to doo it. Chavo ended up being able to stay. A week later, they called my agent and asked me to audition for Steve Austin, and I was like, ‘Hell yeah.'”
“Stone Cold is no doubt the greatest wrestling superstar of all-time,” Hawx continued. “It’s not even debatable, right? As far as wrestling goes, numbers, sales, how big he was for an era. He wasn’t my favorite because that was a different era of my life. But I always had such a high respect for him because he was so good at his craft. He was the best of the best at what he did, and he was unique. So being a professional wrestler, I just had the utmost respect for someone who can take their career and change it over into a completely new character and go from basically a middle card guy that was a great worker to the top of the card and stay there and just do astronomical numbers. For me, that gives a guy like me hope.”
