Jeff Jarrett reflects on his AEW in-ring debut.
Jarrett arrived in AEW on the November 2 episode of AEW Dynamite, where he attacked Darby Allin and aligned with Jay Lethal. This move marked the latest step in Jarrett’s remarkable 2022; among other highlights, he faced Effy at The WRLD on GCW, competed in Ric Flair’s last match, and served as the special referee for the tag team title match at WWE SummerSlam. At AEW Full Gear, Jarrett and Lethal faced Allin and Sting, a man “The Last Outlaw” has plenty of history with, both in WCW and TNA.
Speaking on his podcast, My World with Jeff Jarrett, the WWE Hall of Famer briefly discussed his AEW in-ring debut and described how it was a surreal experience. He also complimented Allin for his intensity.
“This past weekend was surreal. It was really, really surreal,” he said. “Prudential Center, 12,000 fans, I don’t know, but it was full. We were late on the card. I was curious to see where the placement was gonna be with me and old Stinger and the tag. I’ll tell you one thing. Darby puts it in another gear from the time he comes through the curtain.”
Jarrett went on to describe how sharing the ring with Sting again was a special moment. He made it clear that he’s mindful and appreciative that he had the opportunity to wrestle “The Icon”, and former WCW colleague Tony Schiavone calling the match made it even more special.
“When old Stinger turned around in the ring and it was just me and him in the ring….. Lot of moments. Life is about moments,” Jarrett said. “This industry’s certainly about moments, but that is a moment that is etched in my brain. I don’t lose sight of the gratitude coming out of it, both of us, at our stage of our career. 24 years from our first [time] locking them up in WCW, and Tony Schiavone, our podcast-mate, him on the call. Pretty special.”
