Michael Cole: WWE Has Been A Great Change Of Scenery In Recent Months

Michael Cole says everything has been “wonderful” for WWE the past few months.

WWE entered a new era in July when former chairman and CEO Vince McMahon retired. Triple H was subsequently named the head of creative, and the product has changed under his watch. Among other shifts, fans have noticed that Cole, a broadcaster who has been with the WWE since 1997, has more freedom on commentary, as he often mentions other promotions now; by comparison, under the previous regime, these references were few and far between.

Speaking on the November 10 episode of The Pat McAfee Show, McAfee asked Cole how things are going in WWE.

“Everything’s been great. It’s been a great change of scenery the past couple of months,” Cole said. “Things are going wonderfully. Ratings have been good, stories have been great. It’s a different world. I worked under Vince for 25 years, and I knew nothing else.

“He was a second dad to me in many ways. I grew up in the company, and it was a shock when it first happened. I think we’ve all settled in, and we’ve realized, hey, the show must go on, as Vince always said. The show’s going on, and we’re doing well. It’s been a lot of fun.”

McAfee had been Cole’s broadcast partner on SmackDown, but he stepped away from the role when he joined ESPN College GameDay. Wade Barrett is now Cole’s partner on SmackDown.
