Saraya got cleared to wrestle on a fitting day.
During her most recent appearance on The Sessions with Renee Paquette, Saraya revealed how she ultimately got cleared to wrestle again. Saraya made the announcement on the November 9 episode of AEW Dynamite, but she told Paquette she actually got cleared on Halloween.
Before sharing when she got cleared, Saraya spoke about coming to terms with not wrestling anymore. She then explained that she had hope she could do a Steve Austin-style match like the one with Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38, but Tony Khan ultimately suggested a potential tag team match. Saraya then said that there’s some misconceptions about who cleared her, noting that AEW’s Dr. Michael Sampson did not clear her, and AEW told her she had to be 100% cleared by a MRI and CT scan if she wanted to have real matches.
Saraya then said she officially got cleared on Halloween and although she is cleared, she still plans on taking it easy.
“So Halloween, a perfect day, I went to the doctor here in California, one of the best doctors around. He did a bunch of NFL, NBA, all these huge action stars, celebrities, actors and actresses, all that fun stuff. I was like, ‘Well if anyone is going to tell me no, this guy is going to tell me no, right?’ He’s fantastic and his job is on the line if he just lets someone go back to work. So yeah, I got the x-rays done and he was just like, ‘These look great, but we still have to triple-check with the CT scans and MRI.’ So we squeezed them in the same day,” Saraya explained. “I went downstairs for the MRI, I went across the street for the CT scan, I brought them back all within the same hour or so. It was very quick and he sat there and went through them all, he’s like, ‘You’re cleared.’ I just burst into tears, I was [in disbelief].”
Saraya said she asked about fluid showing up on a previous scan, but he said the fusions look good and there weren’t any fractures above or below the repaired area. He also told her that paralysis was rare, and she should listen to her body and take some time off if needed.
“I was like, ‘Well, how many matches can I have?’ And he was like, ‘Let’s take it easy, we’ll do one match a month here and there to actually start building [more strength] back up.’ So long story short, Halloween in when I got the full clearance. I called my parents and I was crying my eyes out,” Saraya explained.
Saraya will face off with Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. at AEW Full Gear on November 19, her first match in nearly five years.
