Chris Adonis, formerly known as Chris Masters, comments on seemingly getting left off the card for NWA Hard Times 3.
Adonis, a two-time NWA National Champion continues to compete on NWA programming, but his status for the pay-per-view is unclear.
Speaking with Steve Fall of NBC Sports Boston, Adonis noted that he doesn’t know what he’ll be doing at the show yet. He then stated that while he knows he can’t be on every show, he has brought it up with NWA management.
“I still think we’re in the process of announcing matches,” Adonis said. “I’m not completely even sure what I’m doing on the card at this point, or if I’m on the card. Hopefully. You think I’m joking, but I ran this through all of upper management just a few days ago, so [laughs]. It’s fine. Can’t be on everything. Either way, it’s gonna be a good card in New Orleans, so I would encourage everybody to check it out on FITE TV.”
When asked to describe how he feels about getting left off the card, Adonis explained that it affects him because he believes he’s one of the best in-ring performers in the business today. He also stated that he thinks he can help sell the pay-per-view.
“It definitely affects… I think most of us who get into this business love it or have a passion for it. So for me, yeah, it does affect me. It hurts to not be on the card, but also, from a standpoint of, I honestly think I’m one of the best in-ring talents in the game today. You can watch any of my work over the last year, and you can see that. I’ve delivered every single time, when it comes to storytelling to physicality to athleticism. Then you factor in everything you just said, the star power and name recognition. So that’s where, at the end of the day, I end up having questions.
“I’m like, I can be used to a certain degree as far as my star power in terms of to help sell a pay-per-view and whatnot over other guys. It is what it is, but to answer your question, yes, it does affect me. If it didn’t, then that would be an even bigger problem. I should get out of the wrestling business because all of us love and have a passion for it. But if you watch any of my work over the last year, I promise you I am one of the best in the business today. Check out a match and tell me otherwise.
Fall pointed out that, as a former WWE star, Adonis should be on more posters because his name recognition can help sell shows, even if he’s not actually competing on the card. Adonis agreed, but he also made it clear that he loves the NWA and the platform he has there.
“I can’t say I disagree with you, and this has been an issue over the last month or two,” Adonis said. “Again, I love NWA and I love what we’re doing there. I love what we represent. I’ve looked at NWA as a a great opportunity for me as a place that I can perform, a platform where I can show the world who I am, who’s a very different performer from the Chris Masters that a lot of people saw earlier in his earlier.”
