According to Stokely Hathaway, he and MJF have wanted to do something like The Firm for years.
The duo go way back, as they worked together on the independent scene before MJF joined with All Elite Wrestling in 2019. “The Salt of the Earth” went on to become one of the company’s top stars, and Hathaway signed with AEW earlier this year. At AEW All Out, Hathaway and MJF unveiled what became known as The Firm, a stable that works on retainer for the Dynamite Diamond Ring winner.
The group helped a masked men, who turned out to be MJF, win the Casino Ladder Match at the pay-per-view. Upon his return to the company after a brief absence, MJF has regained his status as a main player, and The Firm’s association with him puts the stable in the spotlight.
Speaking with The Root, Hathaway discussed his friendship with MJF and noted that they’ve been hoping to work together on a larger scale for years.
“We’ve known each other for a really, really long time and he is genuinely one of my best friends. This is something that we’ve wanted to do on a larger scale for years,” Hathaway said. “We’ve worked together on the Indies…and now we are back together.”
He also stated that their goal is to entertain and have fun. Hathaway expressed his belief that they will reach the top of AEW, and being part of it means the world to him.
“I think the goal is just to do what we’ve always wanted to do, and that is to entertain and have fun,” Hathaway said. “Right now, there’s a question of what’s next and will our goal to reach the top of AEW come to fruition. With MJF in the picture, I think it will definitely happen because MJF gets what he wants. His goal is for all of us to be on his level, and to be one of his friends that to personally be asked to be a part of this, it means the world to me.”
