Finn Balor: The Rougher And Edgier WWE TV Is, The More Authentic It Could Be

Finn Balor advocates for an edgier, gritter WWE product because he wants it to be authentic.

Fans have noticed plenty of differences in WWE TV since Triple H became the head of creative on July 25, and it’s likely that more are still to come.

Speaking with CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri, Balor was asked about the changes to the product, particularly with the way segments feel more connected. Mahjouri brought up how other wrestlers can often be seen in the background, which didn’t happen often on WWE TV in the past. Balor responded by noting that WWE TV might have been “overproduced” in the past, and this approach didn’t feel as natural. He used classic WCW as an example to describe how having a more realistic approach could help the product feel more authentic.

“I also feel like maybe in the past we’ve been guilty of overproducing things, and it doesn’t feel as natural,” Balor said. “I feel like definitely, for me, if I look back and watch an WCW episode and there’s a backstage scene or promo or beatdown, you’ll see people walking, like leaving the building that have already finished their match, entering the building that haven’t performed yet, and that was like natural.

“I feel like that element needs to be emphasized in wrestling. This is live TV, it shouldn’t really be as produced as perhaps it was in the past. I feel like maybe the rougher and edgier it is, the more authentic it could be.””

Balor will face Edge in an “I Quit” Match at WWE Extreme Rules on October 8.
