Sonjay Dutt is incredibly excited to help the next generation of professional wrestlers produce their matches and backstage segments.
All Elite Wrestling’s Sonjay Dutt recently sat down with District Fray Magazine to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about his transition from in-ring competitor to a behind-the-scenes role, Dutt admits it was a hard transition at first, but he feels much more passionate now by being able to help out other talents.
“I think it’s hard to transition from one role in front of the camera and go behind the scenes and still have that passion,” Sonjay Dutt said. “I feel more passionate now helping a lot of the talent that we have and helping them produce their matches and backstage segments. A lot of times I feel more fulfilled and more passionate by doing that than I did in-ring.”
Despite working in a backstage capacity, Dutt has found himself on-screen once again working as the manager for former Ring of Honor World Champion Jay Lethal. This is something Dutt really enjoys because Lethal has been his best friend for almost 20 years.
“Everything that you hear me say about Jay Lethal on television is all 100% true,” Sonjay Dutt said. “He’s like family to me. He’s been my best friend for about 20 years now.”
While his current character is certainly over the top, he’s having a blast portraying him on weekly AEW programming.
“It’s felt natural to be this annoying, high-pitched, loud little monkey on the outside, jumping around, and screaming and shouting and hooting and hollering,” Sonjay Dutt said. “I’m having a blast with it.”
