Keiji Muto (The Great Muta) Discusses His Retirement Tour, Says His Final Opponent Hasn’t Been Decided Yet

Keiji Muto, also known as The Great Muta, will retire next year, but his retirement tour, titled “Pro Wrestling Love Forever”, hasn’t been finalized yet.

Muto has won titles in every major Japanese promotion, and he has also held gold in WCW/Jim Crockett Promotions, among many accolades. He has faced numerous greats throughout his career, and in doing so, he cemented his status as a legend.

In an interview with Scott Edwards of Fightful, Muto was asked about his final match as The Great Muta, which will be at the Great Muta Final “Bye-Bye” event on January 23. When asked, he noted that his opponent hasn’t been decided yet.

“It hasn’t been decided yet,” Muto said. “I hope it will be something that everyone will look forward to, as this is the final bout.

Likewise, when asked about the farewell tour, he stated that the matches aren’t finalized yet, but he’s happy to hear that many wrestlers want to face him.

“Things have not been finalized yet,” Muto said. “All I can say at the moment is that I am glad to hear that many wrestlers are wishing to stand across from me.”

Looking back on his career, Muto summarized it by emphasizing that he has faced more main eveners than anyone, and he’s looking forward to sharing the remarkable moment of his retirement with everyone.

“I have fought with more wrestlers in the main event than any other wrestler in the world,” Muto said. “Inoki-san, (Hulk) Hogan, Fujinami-san, (Ric) Flair, Choshu-san, Sting, Tenryu-san, Maeda san. This world is so big, but you can’t find anybody but me who has fought with such great wrestlers. I look forward to sharing the moment, the legacy I have with everyone for the rest of my final road. There is not much time left, but I hope all can enjoy Keiji Muto.”

The Great Muta appeared on AEW Rampage: Grand Slam, where he reunited with Sting. Pro Wrestling NOAH recently announced that Sting will participate in The Great Muta’s final match. More information is available here.
